Cotswolds country house hotels: The Inn at Fossebridge

Sitting in a nook of the Fosse Way, just north of Cirencester, lies this early 17th Century former coaching inn. Immersed in 300 years of history, the Inn at Fossebridge is a 9 bedroom hotel and dining pub, the perfect getaway for a romantic weekend.

On arrival, we were shown round by charming staff and, as this is a small hotel, we immediately felt at home. After settling into our recently refurbished room at the top of the house, with a lovely large bathroom and a stunning beamed ceiling we went down for dinner in the pub.

This is clearly an old and well regarded establishment. The staff were friendly and, although it was quiet, we were snuggled in a corner by the fire so we felt like we had a private dining area to ourselves; it would be perfect for a Valentines meal.

The food was out of this world, and being a pub the portions were very decently sized. Potted crab followed by venison and then fig tart were all sensational. The food was cooked to perfection, something which the kitchen clearly takes pride in.

There is plenty to explore in the area. The Inn is within easy distance of Cirencester or Cheltenham (both great for shopping) so it is definitely somewhere you could spend longer than one night. The hotel is also dog friendly, and there is a lovely walk which is recommended. In addition the fantastic beer garden must be one of the prettiest and largest around, when summertime comes.

If it’s a rural getaway you’re after with a spot of romantic atmosphere thrown in then the Inn at Fossebridge is ideal.

The Cheltenham room from £165 per night
Dinner approx £40 per person.
