Vamizi Island, part of the Quirimbas archipelago which lies off the coast of Northern Mozambique, is set to provide a new destination for fans of the Indian Ocean, and a new proposition for those looking for a secluded property overseas. Measuring almost 2,500 acres, Vamizi is a tropical island which, so far, has had a minimum of development in the form of a five-star hotel – the highly regarded Vamizi Island Lodge, already voted best beach property in the Good Safari Guide 2011 Awards.
Now a very limited number of buyers will be able to buy their own beachfront villa designed to their own specifications (within design parameters) on plots which range from two to 13 acres, and a minimum o f100m ocean frontage. The villas can have anything up to 600sq m of internal space and 400sq m of external space – open sided gazebos and outdoor living areas, with or without a swimming pool.

Each villa will be an evocative group of linked timber pavilions linked by raised timber walkways, built around existing trees. Only four or five villas are to be built each year, and villa owners will be able to make use of the hotel’s services. Future facilities which are planned include a marina, tennis courts, and different restaurants and bars.
Properties will be built to each individual owners’ specifications, and will be priced accordingly. Designs are all inspired by the small lookout tower in each villa, which is inspired by the Portuguese lighthouse legacy on the island, and provides stunning views out over the landscape and the sea. Local sustainable materials are going to be employed in the build, and the resort is intended to be totally self-sufficient and sustainable, using renewable energy where possible.
